Help! Epson S22 Printer just not working, very, very frustrating!
Re: Help! Epson S22 Printer just not working, very, very frustrating!
Hi All,
I am having some very frustrating issues with my newly purchased Epson S22 printer. I set up the system with Sublimation Ink and a CISS system and everything was working great. I was printing and pressing without any issues what so ever. 'Easy' I thought!!
Then the plot thickens...
After about 2 sheets of print it began playing up, it sometimes prints and no ink goes on the paper, sometimes it only prints out in yellow, or pink. It seems like the ink isn't running through the CISS properly.
I've tried reading the forums but I'm overloaded with information. Oh and I've also tried putting the syringes through the system to stop any air bubbles, etc.
Any help would be HIGHLY appreciated, I've been close to tears on this...literally!!
Thanks,
Aaron.
P.S. I am a complete newb on sublimation so please be patient.

I won't start about the problems in using unsupported printers for those new to sublimation, or go down the route of the number of times we receive calls just along these lines...Aaron;51947 wrote:Hi All,

Okay, constructive comments. If you are not able to re-prime the CISS properly (i.e. you are getting bubbling ink) then your CISS most likely has an air breach and you can either start to locate this with copious amounts of hot glue around anywhere that air might be getting in or get in contact with your supplier of the CISS, explain the problem, and request a replacement CISS. If the CISS is reprimed correctly then it may be an issue with the printer or the more viscous ink not going through the printer. Test your printer by putting the genuine cartridges in to make sure it is working correctly - then you know the problem is with the ink or the CISS.

Hi Martin,
Thanks for the speedy response...
I wish I'd read this forum before I bought the S22, I thought I'd done enough research and made the right choice!!! How wrong can one be!
The CISS doesn't have any bubble issue so I'm sure it's not that, the printer also works with the original cartridges.
I thought sublimation ink was sublimation ink! I was advised to order the ink off a website (eCrater) from the people who sold me the CISS.
Was this another mistake?
Aaron.

I have no idea who eCrater are (apart from what google returns), but they certainly aren't an authorised supplier of sublimation ink. One saving grace here is that you might not have spent hundreds of pounds on ink.Aaron;51949 wrote:Hi Martin,

Just a little balance here because as a supplier I may be accused of bias towards supported printers etc
If you can get your S22 working then great, but you may now have the trial and error/ test and retest route to start on trying to get this to work and then getting it to work reliably. I'm not going to push a printer your way, but have a look on this forum for the Ricoh GXe3300/ SG3110 which comes with SubliJetR inks and PowerDriver for colour management. Yes, probably more expensive that what you've spent already, but what you've spent already (sorry for this bluntness, but...) is a paperweight!

CISS systems are also notorious for needing to be on the right level, too far up and the ink pours into the machine and too low and it never gets to the heads. My other suggestion might be to find a supplier of S22 compatible refillable cartridges and try those instead, I know they are available and less likely to cause issues.

Just a little balance here because as a supplier I may be accused of bias towards supported printers etcThere are a small number of people on this forum that are using printers other than the officially supported printers but these are likely to be more experienced users or those that like to trial and error to get things working. An Epson printer is technically capable to putting sublimation ink onto paper, but not every Epson printer is as good as each other.

Thanks for the advise, I really appreciate it.
Im a little unsure as to how I go about looking up that printer on this Forum. Where would I find the option to buy?
Sorry if I sound stupid!!

Thanks, I'll look into that also.WorthDoingRight;51951 wrote:CISS systems are also notorious for needing to be on the right level, too far up and the ink pours into the machine and too low and it never gets to the heads. You might need to get your posts past a certain number to be able to do searches (not sure), but if you can search then try searching for Ricoh GXe3300 and there will be lots of posts about this printer.Aaron;51952 wrote:Hi Martin,

Some sources for you:
GXe3300: http://www.printerowners.co.uk/sublimat ... inters.htm (links to utube videos as well)
SG3110: http://www.printerowners.co.uk/hardware ... rinter.htm
Do a Google search for Ricoh GXe3300 or Ricoh SG3110 and some of the 1st page returns will be for the DSF and our site, but there will be others

Re: Help! Epson S22 Printer just not working, very, very frustrating!
i use refillable cartridges from corelgraph, and i use the bulk ink from a CISS supplier - i have no bother with using "unsupported ink" "unsupported printers" and nor do a lot of members on here, being a supplier BMS can only quote the official letters of the "printer law" on here - but as worth doing right say use refillable cartridges and then use the bulk ink you already have, you may find you need a colour profile, for this you can ask paul on the forum.
the only issue i have with the epson, is that after a while the rollers can be less likely to take paper in, so i feed one sheet at a time, this is after printing 1000's of sheets. so dont worry or get yer knickers in a twist, go online, put corelgraph in a search engine (there are other suppliers available) and order a set of carts - they will be at your door by friday
