For those using OpenCart - I'm installing this at the weekend and just wondered if there was any 'preferred' mods or add on's that anyone uses?

Many thanks in advance :)

Let me know how you get on AdamB

I have often considered having an online shop as a sort of back up for when things go quiet. But the thought of all that "programming" n stuff scares the hell out of me! Would be interested to see what sort of result you get and what sort of knowledge level you are at

If there are people out there who can set this sort of thing up for a very reasonable price I would be interested to know also.

Simon

P.S. Ordered my Versacam today with white and metallic ink :-)

Will do Simon - ref websites and stuff. I'm quite competent and have done quite a few, it was either web design or personalised gifts that I went into when I left my last job - the latter won as I could be more creative ............... sometimes I do wonder if I made the right choice though!

Ref someone who could help - I know Smitch (Steve) who's on the forum provides website hosting and I believe that his cpanel script has the opencart installation at the click of a button, then I'm sure he could provide your with a price/plan of customising it?

I'm sure Steve will comment :)

thats like sayin - "how longs a bit of string" ?
what one person likes in a "mod" for opencart aint necessary gonna be someone else's cup of tea.

As i have stated in other post while back, i have a very heavy modded cart, and all mods hav been thought out before i buy....it is money after all....
Most mods are front of house, some are back of house to aid me in quickly editing products ect.

There really is no preferred mods adam.......you start building the store, when you are about 3/4 way finished the standard store, then sit back and say, what can i do to make this -
A. easier to edit/work on for myself
B. make it more appealing to the public.

to areas - front of house and back.
Most of your mods will be front of house bud.
Some you will add, then add something else, and find the mod you added 3wks ago just doesnt suit any more .
You will do that....trust me.

FIRST STOP - PICK A THEME for your store, then go from there....
I wouldnt stick with the standard, boring cart every other bugger has adam, and no offence to anyone who has the standard cart, nothing wrong with it.
Get something fresh and differant looking. you want to stand out from the rest, dont you ?

good luck bud

Johnny - thanks for the reply buddy, it is appreciated.

But - although I know that every opencart installation is different, and know of the saying 'how longs a piece of string' I don't that this would apply here as everyone on this forum has something in common, the personalisation of items (be it clothing, subtrates or something else).

That's my method of thinking, the theme and style of it is something that will be developed but I've been looking at various mods & add ons and I thought, if there's a few that use the same mod/add on - then it would probably be of some use to me, probably.

I've installed a few ecommerce sites, html sites, done a little javascript coding, installed and developed Joomla CMS Systems - I just wanted to know if there were any mods/add ons that were common in 'our' area :)

I always install the free addon that allows me to export all my items to a spreadsheet and re-import it if necessary. I find this the easiest way to change prices etc en-masse.

Where did you get your theme from?

I've looked all over for OpenCart themes and they all tend to look very similar except for colours and slight tweaks. Like putting a paint job on a square box - it still looks like a square box no matter what colour your paint it.

If you've found a source with themes that makes OpenCart look significantly different, maybe you could share it with the rest of us?
