i have kept a stretched image on a mug that a customer insisted on, and then rejected for a better one, and i show it to people, along with a duplicate of the mug they ended up with, often helps "persuade" people.

That is a great idea Mrs Maggot, but possible answer to question might be take each case as one off's, as all will different to each other. But yes a scrap and a good comparison is what I think I'll end up doing if and when the problem arrises.

It is quite difficult if you have a background in printing or design to deal with lay people whose expectations are way below what you consider to be reasonable. I am forever saying to clients that the small image that appears ok on a 72dpi monitor screen is not going to look great on a mug or t-shirt. If I am pushed hard then I will try to put these poor images through something like Cleanerzoomer to try and get it to a size that is at least useable.

But at the end of the day beauty is in the eye of the beholder and if a client is happy then fine. On a positive note I have seen the quality of some of the mugs produced by the well known mass printers and to be honest I do not think I have ever produced a mug that was not superior in image quality.

I know what you mean - I tried some of these at Xmas last year and wasn't impressed to be honest
