Amazon ean or UPC
Re: Amazon ean or UPC
Hi guys, I'm trying to list on amazon but it's asking for a EAN or UPC I don't have these as it's mugs that I'll be selling.
Anyone know how I can get round this?
Cheers

You can try and see if you can get a free barcode from one of the online generators....... google "free barcode generator" and see what's on offer. Amazon do this to try and control their seller list mainly aiming at SME's. 13 digit EAN is the UK standard but there are various versions out there covering certain products and regions of the World.North guy;41769 wrote:Hi guys, I'm trying to list on amazon but it's asking for a EAN or UPC I don't have these as it's mugs that I'll be selling.

Most probably want you to have your own number from GS1 (barcode organisation). I've seen in the past some will give a number but they are not supposed to do it really. Barcodes are used for traceability as well as the pricing element. If you put a barcode number into the GS1 site it will tell you the manufacturer/importer details. If you can't find a site that will offer a number you are going to struggle. This is why Amazon do it, it makes it even harder on small runs/personalised stuff where lots of barcodes will be required.North guy;41777 wrote:Hi Andrew,

Had a call from Amazon today, they had seen my Facebook shop, trying to get me to sign up with them, I need a minimum of 400 products and each needs a barcode.
Does anyone know how much they cost?

Simply Barcodes - one of the big barcode issuers quotes a cost per barcode for Amazon as $89.00 each (less 15% if you dont need the actual barcode image just the barcode EAN number) so thats just $75 each barcode so for 400 products that a very affordable $30,000!gorgall2;50055 wrote:Had a call from Amazon today, they had seen my Facebook shop, trying to get me to sign up with them, I need a minimum of 400 products and each needs a barcode.

Somehow I hope that there are cheaper providers out there otherwise selling on Amazon of custom mugs etc seems to be out of the affordability of most (or well at least me).
Some info on Amazon barcodes here on the Simply Barcodes site. http://www.officialeancode.com/barcode-amazon.html#08
Re: Amazon ean or UPC
Anyone can sign up with the main organisation for barcodes and it doesn't always cost that much if you are a small company. I didn't think it was legal to wholesale barcodes as it's designed as a way to trace a product back to it's source as well as the pricing element. Have a look on www.GS1UK.org . That's where it all begins.
I wouldn't trust Amazon as far as I could throw them. They use people as guinea pigs to see what sells then if someone finds a winner they will do it themselves.

GS1UK £107 joining fee and £117 yearly subscription, plus VAT of course.
Amazon want all products to be on a white background, so hours of photoshopping.
I don't think I'll be taking them up on it just yet.
