Re: Starting out-Equipment

Hi all.
Just starting up a sideline job of Sublimation. Initially looking at doing mugs, coasters and key rings.
Im looking at buying the following equipment:

Mug press
A4 printer and ink
Sublimation papers
Heat Press

Can anyone recommend which brands/products are best and if there are any decent starter kits on the market. I'm currently looking on the xpres website at their single mug press http://www.xpres.co.uk/p-7949-studio-mu ... .aspx?p=55 and the Ricoh A4 printer http://www.printerland.co.uk/Ricoh-GX-e3350n-P109578.aspx?source=

Any help and advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi and welcome :) Don't buy the printer from Printerland and then install the cartridges that come with it as you'll be buying another printer just as quick. Like Xpres we have business packages available on our website.

Hi Gary welome to the forum.
The Xpres studio mug press is the one I bought. Top quality but top price.
If you speak to Martin at BMS he can set you up with the full package of what you need and incliude good backup service all at a very resonable price. ( there are some very good reccomendataions for Bms presses on this site.
Do not Forget to join this forum for a tenner as you will get a good discount from BMS and other suppliers that this site reccomends, which will save you pounds at the offset.

jeez for the price of one of those £350 mug press's, you could buy TWO mug press's(one for water bottles) and still walk away with around £100 in change..each to there own.....

then if it goes tits up....another £350 quid to shell out.....just for the mug press

still a bit steep for a newbie to have a play with to see if he/she gonna like it or not.

better going for cheaper mug/flat bed press for BMS/coralgraph to start out, to see if he is gonna stick it/like it/make money first, before he delves into the more costly machines

You could indeed but the quality of the Adkins press pays in the long run, in the same way as the flat presses do. I also use a cheap press alongside and it works fine.

I would certainly advise to get best equipment you can but I do agree that if you're just starting out you're better off paying nearer £100 for a mug press, see how you get on and upgrade if necessary.

If you start out with cheaper presses and decide later to upgrade, those cheap ones make great back-ups and give you a safety net if anything happens to your expensive gear

Thanks for all the replies people. I'll definitely be paying my membership real soon. I'll contact Martin tomorrow for a chat. I tend to find you pay for what you get regards the cheaper mug presses. Is that the case in the sublimation game? Are the Recoh printer a good all round printer? (prices on that model vary quite a lot).

Thanks again, gary
