Re: B1100 - Cartridges Not Recogised

Post by Isablu »

Hi all,

I'm new here - have been lurking, reading and learning for months.

Have been through a few hiccups trying to get up and running, but I am now at the point where defenestration is imminent.

I have a CISS kit - ArTanium (purchased from BMS) - fitted, and all has been going fine. Have printed out a few things over the last month with no problems, and everything started fine today, but now the printer says 'Cartridges Not Recognised'.

I've tried:

-turning the printer off & back on again
-Reset button for 5 seconds (actually did about 10 seconds, to make sure)
-turn off printer, reset button for 5/10 seconds
-cartridge change, reset button, click cartridges out and back in again
-hit the change cartridge button, removed cartridges, cleaned the fronts of the PCB's, reset button for 5/10 seconds, turned off printer, turned back on, refitted & reset button again...

Any ideas? Is there some magic procedure I've missed? I have a load of stuff I need to get printed and out in the post by Tuesday at the latest!

Have you tried speaking to BMS? Welcome to the forum by the way

Only time I've seen this I've unplugged the printer at the back (whilst still switched on) left for 5 mins and re-powered on again, slight variation on what you've done I think. otherwise I guess the chips may be faulty but either way you're under warranty.

It's only just started doing it today. I've just swopped in the genuine Epson carts, but still doesn't recognise them. Will try turning it off and leaving it for 5 mins! Thanks, and thanks for the welcome!

Uhm, so it points to the printer rather than the carts then probably? Which printer and did you get it at same time as CIS?

Just Googling.....I read that removing your Epson drivers and reinstalling can help, otherwise as I suggest, re-powering with the original carts in place might work.

Often problems like this are because the cartridges aren't F I R M L Y installed. Push down hard at front and back of cartridges when installing - you should hear them click into place.

Right - not sure what was going on, but somehow have solved it. Will put what I did, in case it turns out to be useful to someone else with the same problem in the future!

I was aware that the cartridges really have to be firmly in place, so I was making sure that was the case at every step, no matter which cartridges it was.

Removed the drivers, rebooted PC, started the printer without it being connected to the PC and with genuine carts in, and still had the ink light flashing.

Reinstalled driver, plugged printer back into PC, did all the usual fiddling (turn off printer, turn on, pull the plug without powering off etc). Out of desperation, I reinstalled the CISS cartridges, (while questioning the printers parentage and making threats involving sacks, bricks and rivers...), and it decided to behave itself and I'm up and running again.

So, if anyone gets this problem in the future, try swearing at it

Hi Paul - yep - not a million miles away! Well, if you have a breakdown or similar and need to borrow something at short notice, give me a yell - I might be able to help!

Well, I spoke too soon. It decided to throw another little hissy-fit. I think I found how to fix it, so posting it for future reference.

Using the 'replace cartridge' process, Remove the CISS cartridges and replace with Epson genuine cartridges, and let it try and initialise those cartridges. It will fail.

Do the 'cartridge change' procedure, and put the CISS cartridges back in (having pressed the reset button). Press the ink button once. Hold the reset button. Press ink button once, hold reset button... repeat until the cartridges are back in the right place. This seems to make it actually finally accept them, and start working again!

Hopefully this will help someone one day with the same problem!
