Yep, just wondering if it's possible for an old faded type font to look good in vinyl? Can the two go together and achieve a sort of 'authentic' old look? I've spent a fair bit of time trawling t'internet for grunge and broken fonts but haven't yet found one that looks great whilst at the same time isn't going to take hours to weed. Does anyone know of an old and faded font that transfers well to new vinyl? Would be very happy if there is one!

If you use Corel Draw try taking a normal bold font, Arial Black for example, and lay a vectorised distressed grid on top. then you powerclip the grid inside the text and you will have a distressed look text that is easy to weed. You might have to fiddle about and combine the text and grid but I think you will find that will work for you.

Thanks Earl for the tip! Unfortunately I don't have Corel Draw, but I will have a look at the programs I do have and see if I can find a way of doing something similar. I have paint shop pro but don't know it all that well, do you think that might do it?

Is Paint Shop pro a vector program? If its only a Bitmap program then you cant even cut out vinyl. You must have a vector for that . Heres a link to Corel12 but if you do a search on the forum you might find a link to open source vector software.

Ah okay thanks:smile:. PSP won't cut directly, I would have to transfer and trace the design. Thanks for the link too, will have a look at this and maybe open source programs too.

Thanks Laura. Yeah, I don't think I'll be able to avoid the weeding...

Ooooh, now I like that one and the weeding doesn't look as bad as some I've tried. I might have to give it a try, thanks.
