Re: New WHITE laser printers - anyone tried them ?

There is a wave of innovation back to laser printers that can print white (or clear...) toner!
The thinking behind them as I understand it is that white or clear toner can be used to create the mask for self weeding transfere products like WOW or Neenah Papers and Eztrans.
Here is a link to an Oki - seems expensive at near £5k - but being able to print white !
http://eztrans.co.uk/new%20images/OKI%2 ... rinter.pdf

Is this really just a 4 colour laser printer with White swapped for the black ? - and a modified RIP ? it does limit the colour gammut as CMY black is not as good as K black.
Also - laser white is not very dense on it's own - so cannot be used to print great whites using white transfere products ......
I understand that there are more similar printers to follow - some as 6 colour machines so you can have 2 or 3 whites to get propper white density, or 2 whites and keep the K black.
Has anyone tried these printers yet, or had a demo.
What are your thoughts ?
I am still looking for the silver bullet that will do great full colour floating artwork on coloured garments - without DTG ..... is this it?

should be at that price

I however wonder if it might not be possible in the near future to just buy 'white' toner for refilling your old 'black' only toner cartridges.

Till then this appears a cheaper way:

Thanks, just read the ATI link, sounds just like the OKI option being released (slowely) in the uk.
i see the issues being rip related, - perhaps we will have to use something like a 'powerdriver' to convert the image and control toner laydown.
I just cannot see the white being dense enough as a single layer, if i recall - toner is now a powdered polimer, but white comes from Titanium dioxide which is insoluble and doesn't heat fuse at 190c.
20 years ago I used to have a Sharp photocopier that used white toner, - it was awesome, wich i still had it!
We had a job yesterday - 20 sheets of WOW, - took George a good half day to do, looked great, but a lot of hassle.
