Not all registrars have behaved this way in the past. That's why it's always good to seek out one that's reputable and stick with them (until they let you down, of course!). Sometimes being enticed into saving extra pennies isn't always the wisest course of action.Charlie_;47427 wrote:Well they must allways do that, the mail name address and phone number are all mine always have been. So I guess further proof that I'm with a reliable company.
Can you sort out a argument about web domains

I never went with these for price, but was on a recomendation, that was more than 8 years ago. I did have a problem once configreing a domain I transfered to them from another registrar. They had it sorted for me with half an hour of my first emailing them. They are my registrars and hosts.

Re: Can you sort out a argument about web domains
In fairness to 123 I use them for my domain registration and not had a problem, I had a problem previously with a registrar which used their own company as the registrant. I host my sites elsewhere and never have a problem with domains or hosting now.
Re: Can you sort out a argument about web domains
Over the years I have had many domains with these, I have 8 with them at the moment, they are the registrars and do my hosting. Never a problem with any thing. The problem I had that was sorted in minutes was with a different registrar that I transfered to them, it could have been the whois not sure but was fixed in minutes.

Re: Can you sort out a argument about web domains
my husbands first web site was with Mr site, at renewal time the payment went through, but was never allocated, and the funds returned by them to our account, we never noticed, until we went to do some work on the website and it was no longer accessible, calls to mr site, said it was no longer our site, and he could buy the .com (the original site he had registed but for £250) as thats what it was now available for. various letters and emails, could not get to the bottom of why the payment had been allocated, and to this day we have not been able to get Mr site to let us have his original .com one back, he now hosts with someone else and owns the name, where as it was explained to us with Mr site and similar you rent the site, and if you dont pay they are free to rent it out to others at what ever price they choose !!!

All of my sites are in my name and contact details, I get regular emailsfor me to check that all details are still upto date and correct. But then there are shysters in all business models unfortunatly. Hence when you get a reliable person stayy with them .......

Re: Can you sort out a argument about web domains
The key is down to understanding what you are getting in to. You can register domains through thousands of providers these days, but you need to be on the ball and make sure that all YOUR details are up to date. If you move house, or change email address or phone number then you need to remember to update YOUR records held at the registrar.
You should start getting emails from your host before the domain expires to start warning you about renewal. However if your details are wrong, you won't! It's probably worth you putting an entry in your diary or calendar so you have an extra reminder.
The good news is that your domain is generally safe for a short period of time even if it does expire, and can't be registered by anyone until it has fully released. How long this period is depends on the type of domain you have - .co.uk, .net, .com etc.
