I have now managed to get the business name at the top of the web page. I did that by copying the opencart image into "MS Paint" copied the properties the worked from there. Prior to that I had the shop name so small it was almost invisible, and so big it covered almost everything else up.
I have a vague understanding of how it comes together, so I think my next step might be to see if can get the email side of things working. No idea where to start there, but I gues I'll bump into it somewhere, or somebody will poke me in the right direction with a sharp pointy stick!
The opencart forum is useful when I get to a relevant post.

Steve has been excellent, although I am not sure whether he is pulling his hair out, or wetting himself laughing!

neither mate :)
i'm used to it, you should try helping Justin sort the shop out :D
i spent a few nights in constant emails with him but got him there in the end i think :)

as for emails what did u want to do?
it should all be set up with a default template
or did u want to make emails like sales@jm's etc
if so the emails are made in the cpanel on the server not OC :) and there are little vids on there showing how to set it all up
you can edit the email address in the shop setup /edit

if you want to edit the templates that needs to be done via coding which can be complicated
so if you need a hand let me know
also did i set up VQMod on your shop?
if not let me know and i'll install it for you that way there is a couple of mods which removes the OC link at the bottom of the shop and on emails

i did notice the logo a couple of times i had a quick look at it ;)

Vqmod ?
No idea Steve.

I have sorted the incoming email so the customer uses "sales@.....", but now I need to sort out how I send the reply so as it comes from "Janners@.......".

Ok after a day of trying I am no further forward.

How do I send emails to my customer so as they come from "janners@myshop.co....".

At present customer send an enquirey to sales@myshop name.co" etc and it arrives in my own email. If I reply it goes out with my own email address on it, not the shop one.

I have trawled the opencart forum, and looked in cpanel. I am sure I must have missed something. Everythng I find is not what I want!

Any ideas?

Just orderd this
'Showme Guides Opencart 1.5 User Manual' by MS Kerry R. Watson

I downloaded the PDF example bit and it was excellent for a numpty like me, so now I have bought the book (ordered from Amazon anyway).

More info to follow. The site is getting there. In general it has been easy, just I am a bit slow with computers.

I have jsut had one of those "Duhhhhhhh" moments.
If I open my internet shop every morning (as I would a physical shop), email (post) is there in the admin bit! as it would be if if I did the admin in the admin office of a physical shop. Now if instead of sending out a newsletter, I just reply to the emails that have come in, so untick the "News letter" box, all should work.

Hmmmm I'll have to check that later when I am interruption free.

I appear to be overcomplicating "opencart".

Hi i am building a site and my host is dataflame they are cheap but unlike others i have tried they have a 24/7 online chat i have made a real mess of my sites befor and through on-line chat they have restored and repaired very good.
I have also used oscommerce, zencart and at the moment prestashop, prestsashop looks better and has bucket loads of features, cons modules can be expensive but if you look around there are plenty free ones.

a great thing to use is fire bug with fire fox it make finding the code really easy that you need to change in the ftp
and you may want to download notepad++ as it give you the line numbers on the left hand side thanks
