I have noticed that a lot of the dedicated photo size printers use dye sublimation to produce the prints. Has anyone ever used their ricoh/epson/brother etc printer with sublimation ink to print a photograph onto photographic paper?
Just wondered if other than making transfers if there was anything else that sublimation ink was good for (and yes I know the price is prohibitive against other inks)

My Brother printer arrived 10 minutes ago, so now just got to arrange to buy the bits I still need

You could use the sublimation print for printing out anything - the colours wouldn't be right but you could print out documents from Word in black(ish) text on ordinary paper. But why you would want to do this a mystery. Yes it's possible, but v e r y expensive!WorthDoingRight;46451 wrote:I have noticed that a lot of the dedicated photo size printers use dye sublimation to produce the prints. Well, I never said I wanted to do it! I was just trying to fathom out if other than for heat transfer purposes, whether there was an other practical use for printing out anything else with sublimation ink.bms;46462 wrote:But why you would want to do this a mystery!
Perhaps there is a market for slightly weird coloured photographs lol
Re: Dye Sublimation for Photos
cheaper to photoshop werd coloured images and get them professional printed - sublimation ink is only good for heat transferring, if you want to print photographs, get the right inks for doing that.

So it seems the answer is sublimation ink printers are only useful for making transfers - Thanks all for enlightening me and satisfying my curiosity
