Some of my friends are convinced that something is gonna happen at this - something really BIG - what they call in conspiracy terms as "a false flag event" - and it aint gonna be pretty !

I find it hard to get excited about these things. I'm always Cynical. At such a difficult financial time should we be gambling on a great success when we could just say, let's save ourselves however many millions/billions it costs and do something more worthwhile with the money.

Our local council here are completing a new music/cinema venue at a minimum cost of £11m. They've now announced that they are running out of money and have to make major cut backs. We have to pay for the kids music lessons and many other things have been slashed. Heck, they used to give you 2 lots of bin bags per year and now only one! (We don't tend to use wheelie bins much out of the town)
Why on earth do we need such a lavish venue, I hope we're all proved wrong and that it will attract the big bands they say it will and it pays for itself...but it's hard to believe.

My point with this being, we could have saved over £11m which is a hell of a lot of money for a small island with only 22,000 inhabitants.

Sorry, I went off thread and ranted a little....back off my soap box now.....I agree the Olympics is a total waste of money, a massive security risk and something that I find hard to believe will bring in the money they say it will to the UK. Now show me that torch. yep, it's coming to Shetland, that'll be interesting, the runway isn't big enough for the golden plane to land on

I am bored with the Olympics, which in essence has been another means of putting everything of any significance in London which is populated by people from other countries getting the benefits ( if any) of the money we have spent. I can't see how this improves sport for kids in Wales, or Scotland or Cornwall or anywhere outside a big city. I would rather see the Govt spend on playing fields and municpal tennis courts, or local coaches. It's just a massive money making machine for a few interested parties!

Add me to the list, I would have thought we could skip all the nonsense of the opening and closing ceremonies, they cost millions. Maybe we could give the games back to Greece and they could benefit and pay their bills.

+1 here.....too expensive, too little value to the UK economy with most of the 'memorabilia' products being made overseas, too many restrictions placed on the use of anything remotely Olympic associated to allow small UK producers to get in on the market....very little impact on the unemployment figures as most of the construction workers are from the EU.......obtaining tickets for UK residents was/is a fiasco........Olympic flame police escorts needing counseling to reintegrate back to normal duties (that makes me want to throw up).................and worst of all is the 'strutting peacock bigwigs' telling everyone how great it is for the UK.

What a load of cobblers......and expensive cobblers at that.

Sure, - the commercialization of the games suck, - so that we cannot print hoops on T's for pubs that want to show events in public or whatever, and yes, I know that the money involved is beyond imagination.
The decision for the games was mad way before the current economic crisis, so those comments can be ignored.
My kids, my customers, and my city are really sporting up. OK - I am not a jock, - I don't do sport, the first bit of the sunday paper to get used for fire lighting is the sport section, but the bigger picture is what is important. 2012 will be a landmark year, and I hope for the right reasons.
The legacy means that the east end of London gets the redevelopment that would never have happened otherwise, and sure, it is, and always will be a case of London, and 'all the rest of the uk' - but the rest of the uk needs london, and since we have the games, I am going to make the most of them.
We have printed official kit for quite a few competitors, and loads of support stuff for friends and rellies.
In summary, games good, commercial side bad.

Are you licensed or running the risk of getting the legal dogs set lose on you?

If you are licensed I was wondering about the cost of getting licensed.
