Hello, from fellow welshy, and a very good original post but as it refers to me id like to have an input!
Up until about 3 weeks ago i had never heard the word SUBLIMATION never mind sublimation printing etc. Anyway one day i thought i would like to look into it and three weeks later im producing my first mugs. now ive had to learn Photoshop, sublimation printing, sublimation mugs etc etc all in a very short period. Now i started by typing in the internet and ended up on this forum, (and glad i did) ive learnt most things from here but the one thing i noticed (coming from a complete novice) was how many of the members are from suppliers. now this at first gave me the impression that the advice i was going to recieve was going to be biased and definatly anti ebay. so i decided to listen to some of the advice and partly take some chances myself. i bought a mug press from coralgraph and a printer and ink and mugs from ebay. I also had some private messages from some members giving me some ebay advice and reccomending some products from there. So this is where i stand, after 3 weeks ive learnt who to listen too and who not. the price it cost me was 36 mugs which came off ebay and didnt last a week. i also originally got into Sub printing for a little hobbie not even thinking that i could make money from it, in three weeks ive had enough offers from people wanting mugs to seriously think about investing in BETTER equipment, i now have learnt to come to you guys (you know the ones)
Anyway what i would finally like to say is thankyou guys for the great forum and advice and yes you are right about not buying cheap stuff but i think everyone needs to learn from mistakes and it will make me a better mug printer.

advice for new people from Brett is excellent! But as i said this many time before I will say that cheap not mean always bad. and expensive not always mean best. Advice from me is not buy the cheapest or most expensive. Buy SMART! do your research and ask lots of questions.

I agree with everything said and this is a great post for anyone venturing into this industry. But the red bit is not the best advice is it? lol

Also just to confuse the newbies even more - even though a lot of bad things are said for eBay\ Chinese equipment, I bought a cheap swing away press off eBay FIVE YEARS AGO and it's still going strong, it prints just as good as the day it first came!! We do have another 3 heat presses besides this one including an Adkins and a Hotronix which costed considerably more - and the cheap Chinese jobby gives equally good results every time (although it is a bit rough around the edges and it does take a bit more muscle to use than the others, lol)

I'm not saying you should go buy one, it's just my own personal experience - when you read all the horror stories it does seem to be random pot-luck if you get a good one or a bad one.....

Doh, now I've gone and jinxed myself - watch it go and conk out on Monday morning, lol.
