Hi, I'm having real trouble printing dog tags that do not chip after a short time.
I'm trying to print tags with info on both sides, so they need to be sublimatable on both sides.
I've tried aluminum (they were two pieces stuck together, that's why they were sublimatable on both sides) and they spoiled quickly, after just a few days the coating would begin to peel on the edges. Then I tried stainless steel (solid piece, coated in white) and they both feel more solid and look more professional, but the coating also chips after, say 10 days, if the dog is particularly active. In this case it chips and then, later, begins to peel off... So, again, not great.
Does anyone now of any sturdy sublimatable dog tag blanks, round ones in whatever the size? Is it actully possible to sublimate tags without them spoiling after a while? Are there hard plastic ones or can one order hard plastic for sublimation custom made? (I'm guessing those might not spoil, but I really don't know either...)
Any help, much appreciated!
Chipping Issues - small id tags
Re: Chipping Issues - small id tags
The UniSub FRP material would be sturdy and some suppliers sell this in sheet form. If you can cut it to circle shape and drill a hole then that would probably work well (and some of the FRP sheets are printable both sides. The alternative would be the FRP round keyrings, but at 60mm diameter are these too large?SrPerro;44705 wrote:Hi, I'm having real trouble printing dog tags that do not chip after a short time.

The key rings are too large, yes
Unless you have a huge dog, they would stand out a little too much. I'm reluctant to sent anything to be cut -I asume I'll have to buy a large quantity- unless someone has used it before and can verify the durability because my trials so far have been frustrating and expensive to boot. But it's definitely worth exploring so I am keeping it in mind. The FRP does not chip, does it? Thanks again!

Its a solid piece so durable. Why not get a piece of this, eg a rectangular keyring, cut it in half and drill a hole so you have a smaller square dog tag and experiment with it. That way you test the resilience of the material with minimal outlay.SrPerro;44714 wrote:The key rings are too large, yesUnless you have a huge dog, they would stand out a little too much.
