iPhone Cases - Time & Temp
Re: iPhone Cases - Time & Temp
Just did my first couple of iPhone cases today & they have come out more wrinkly than a prune on the surface.
I pressed them at 180 degrees for 50 seconds & also pressed them one with the metal underneath & one with the metal on top. My settings were ok because I had just pressed 100 pieces of metal which were all perfect.
On top of this I had a nightmare putting the insert onto the case because I got the ones with the seperate piece of double sided & boy is that ultra sticky.
Would be very grateful to find out what everyone else is using as far as time & temp.
Many thanks.

Did you remove the protective plastic on the surface of the metal sheet? I presume these came with that on.Ian M;43221 wrote:Just did my first couple of iPhone cases today & they have come out more wrinkly than a prune on the surface.

Oh yes I did Martin having had to remove it on all the pieces of metal I had just pressed before the cases. In fact they come out looking like the protective film is still there to be honest.bms;43225 wrote:Did you remove the protective plastic on the surface of the metal sheet? Re: iPhone Cases - Time & Temp
That is strange. Can't imagine why the metal would go wrinkly as it should be a flat smooth surface - the temp and time is about right. Perhaps the coating melted. If other metal you pressed was okay then it sounds like a coating issue. Possibly go down to 180 degrees for 40 seconds to see if the lower temp helps. What did the supplier suggest?Ian M;43226 wrote:Oh yes I did Martin having had to remove it on all the pieces of metal I had just pressed before the cases. Re: iPhone Cases - Time & Temp
I think it also could be the coating that is the problem Martin. In fact watching their video their finished inserts have the same wrinkly surface as mine. The easiest option is just to get them from you & then I know they'll be good.
I contacted the supplier a few weeks back when I had a problem with their Orca mugs cracking in the press & even had a handle fly off at one point & still waiting for him to call me back so, don't think I'll bother again.
Many thanks for your help Martin

Re: iPhone Cases - Time & Temp
Ian M - in two months I had 3 different type of alluminium sheets for iPhone covers, all with different finished results.
I am pressing metal at 190 for 55-60sec with image face up.

Re: iPhone Cases - Time & Temp
Many thanks Michal. I think Martin has hit the nail on the head as it does look like the coating is the issue here.
Re: iPhone Cases - Time & Temp
Hi Ian, I was pressing at 190 for 60 secs with the same result as you. I have now dropped my temp to 175 for 75 seconds and the result is unbeleivable its as smooth and shiny as glass.
Funny tho every one I have seen out there printed by other companies has been rippled...Not mine
