whether you agree the hike or not they should still provide the service they are charging for. Couriers are just as bad.

I too was a bit lost for words when I realised 1st Class was going to rise by 30%. Let's face it the reason why it has been done is just as Jonathan says as the government just wants rid of RM to the private sector. Once in private hands watch the prices really climb because then they'll have shareholders wanting a decent dividend every year.

Speaking to my postman on quite a few occasions I have been a bit shocked on how bad the RM management are a lot of the time. I was asking why the post came at around mid day now as opposed to early morning & he told me it was because the managers at our local sorting office had them sat around doing nothing until the managers told them they could start their deliveries. He said in the past they would have an early start get everything delivered & then go back to help in the sorting office until the end of their shift. He said now they don't have time to get back because of the late delivery time & are lucky to finish their rounds on time.

I don't know if it is the same everywhere else but, here in Bradford RM have bought a load of Vauxhall Corsa vans for the postmen to use (2 postmen per van) where they take all the bags of post for their rounds. They then have to leave the vans unattended when they are walking their rounds which isn't very security concious in my book. My postman said it is just a waste of money buying all those vans as it has only knocked off about 30 minutes of their rounds. So, that is where some of the money has gone.

I have got the feeling that it is like a lot of other major companies where middle management don't really know how to do the job on the ground because they never started there. They come up with ideas on paper which look good at the time but, just don't work in practice.
