If you have your own domain name, i.e. dyesubforum.co.uk, you can set up a catch all account, this will forward anything that has been sent to an incorrect email address.

I've set one up so that I can see where some spam comes from (not that much gets through nowadays!) When I complete an on-line form I change the first part of my email address. For example, I just emailed Traveldoge about my recent stay and used [EMAIL="travelodge@dyesubforum.co.uk]travelodge@dyesubforum.co.uk[/EMAIL] in the form. If I get any spam through to that address I can tell where it came from! I can also choose to ignore it easily.

Also useful for mistakes, i.e. If someone used jjustin@dyesubforum.co.uk instead of justin@dyesubforum.co.uk it will pick these up

im sure i put exactly that in the thread about the mugs that are free, thats what i always do whenever i fill out forms, interestingly enough the worst one so far has been the NEC when you used their booth to fill out for a chance for an ipad, ive had mail from a lot of "interested parties"

I find mobile phone calls are more of a problem than email:mad: I did ask one caller, who wanted to sell me a fitted kitchen, where she got my number. She said I must of put my number in a form at a diy store, like "Homebase"....."I don't think so my dear":rolleyes:

I've been doing this ever since I started, but I go one step further.

While I do put different email addresses into any site I sign up for, I set the catchall (that catches everything else) to just fail anything that doesn't get picked up by a legitimate address. It cuts down on all that spam from the spambots that put something@yourdomain.com. Lots of them go through all the standard words, some use dictionary words, and others just use random letters, but I don't see any of them now.
