hi everyone!
I am barry from west midlands nr brum [uk]
I have been looking for some while now to find a business for my pc/gaming mad daughter she has just turned 16 and due to enter the 'working world' [ or she would be if there were any jobs out there! I refuse to let her work for mc.doughnuts].
she is very good at art,she lives on a pc [unless she's on her ps3 or xbox] she is trying to start a website selling gaming and collectable goodies and we thought a mug and t-shirt printer would allow her to sell some unique items [plus i have been itching to find a excuse to get a vinyl cutter for the past 2 years]
my question now is which ones to buy. there are many vinyl cutters on fleabay at cheap prices mainly chinese i think [and i read on this forum that they are not much cop.] also mug presses from less than £60 new buy now! [uk-racer] the seller is fairly local and offers a 2 year parts warranty. but i am still wary [I read somewhere on here that coralgraph were ok and i have seen them on amazon. any ideas??]
i know i should be looking at a roland or graphtex but my lottery numbers haven't come up yet. i could scrape about £500 to get a start in this business new or second hand? fleabay or where? which printer? [epson seems to be the make on here but any partic. model?]
I fancy having a bash at a bit of vehicle sign writing my self, so how big a cutter?
sorry to ask soooo many questions on my first post, but you seem a friendly lot, and i dont want to make my usual mistake of buying the first thing i see and then finding out its no good
many thanks for even reading this far and extra thanks if you can help!

coralgraph are a brill firm and good customer service also

steer clear of flebay as yes they do tend to be rubbish altho as always some ppl get stuff off there and haven't had any problems

printers depends on what you prefer
epson lots of us us
others also us richo;s

epsons tend to be cheaper to buy but do sometimes struggle i love my epson and haven't had many problems thankfully

as for cutters can't help you there as i only have a little craft robo

there is the show on sun-tues near you it might be a good idea to pop along
lots of us are going including me on monday :D woo hoo (i'll be the one wearing a dsf badge rofl )

Hi Barry and welcome to the forum! Get yourself over to the P&P show at the NEC Sun, Mon or Tues :-)

If you want to copy your thread into the general dye sub forum you'll get plenty of specific advice in there.

Welcome Barry. The Cameo is a great little cutter and will cut 300mm wide by around 3m in length. These really are a great little machine, although you may struggle to get one second hand. The previous model is the Craft ROBO and these may be available on the second hand market but these have a slightly narrower cut width of 210mm (again by up to 3m on length).

Hi barry and welcome,

I started of with a 24" foison plotter back in the day (not that long ago lol) and it was my little baby it was great for small decals and signs to start me off with i soon made my money back before buying my 50" plotter.

I'm not saying foison are the best but they are great for a start up until you generate money:wink:

Good luck

Kelly
Are you thinking what I'm thinking that I think that you're thinking I'm thinking because if you think that I think what I think I'm thinking then we've got a problem?

Cameo is the replacement to the silhouette which was the replacement to the Craft ROBO. Silhouette and Robo were same size whereas the Cameo is a larger machine (up to 300mm wide).
