Re: Ricoh GXe3300n Washed out colours

Post by colourfixuk »

Hi,

I recently purchased a Ricoh GXe3300n printer. Installed it with all the recommended settings and colour profiles that came with the install disks, I'm using the Sawgrass Subli Jet R inks. I'm using Illustrator CS5 and have set up the colour profile as suggeted on the sublijet R install disk, everything looks nice and punchy on screen but as soon as I print my image out the blacks look very washed out and insipid. i know your never going to get an exact match to what you see on screen to what you get out of your printer but its so far away its ridiculous.
I've tried putting the images onto my mugs to see if they darken up once heated and transfered, but they're still quite weak. I have tried the recommended time and temp of 190c for 180 secs, and have also tried a lower temperature and time and a higher temperature and time to no avail.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated for this noob.

Thanks

Couple of things maybe the problem
are you using the powerdriver from sawgrass http://www.sawgrasseurope.com/technical ... sublijet-r
how long are you cooking from
is pressure on press correct
Are you pressing from idle temp or cold

as far as i know this is far to long and far to hot for ricoh and gel ink. try 170c and 160sec as this is more suitable for ricohs.

Sounds like the image isn't printing properly in the first place. The Ricoh prints do look lighter I believe but should still be clear. I'm having similar problems (different thread)

Hi all,

Thanks for your replys.

Letsgo - I've tried using the gel printer settings and the power driver. The power drive was slightly better but not great. Have just adjusted the pressure slightly and I've been starting from the idle temp not from cold.

Paul - I tried 170c for 160, also 160 for 90 but the images looked even lighter!

Justin - I don't think it is printing properly from the start, I've tried 3 different types of paper to see if there was any difference in colour, but they were all pretty much the same.

Thanks for your input though guys. Will keep trying.

I know you could/should be using powerdriver, but in illustrator, is this any good:

Or you could try printing from a different program with the powerdriver to see if it makes a difference.

Are you using sublimation paper? Are you printing on the correct side of the paper. Where did you purchase the paper from?

Thanks for all your input guys,

Finally sorted it out. Looked on the sawgrass website and there were slightly different colour management settings on there, as soon as I inputed the different settings everything came out fine. Colours on my mugs now nice and punchy.

Thanks once again for taking the time out to help.
