I think it needs to be a piezo head for sublimation but I may be wrong.

It does need to piezo, yes, and as far as I know Canon use a different type of head technology, but I wanted to check.

not for long apparently, hence why I am asking here to check.
He does say if he puts the proper Canon carts back in it works fine.

Diferent ink technopogy os squirting ink on paper. Sublimation ink is to thick i think...

It is only Epson & Brother who use the piezo heads so, you wouldn't be able to use a Cannon for sublimation.

Thanks guys - is what I thought, but wanted to check I was right. Would hate to tell a customer something and later find out I was wrong.
