Unable to print solid black

I am using a ricoh gx 3300 with the original subli-jet cartridges supplied with it. When I print mugs everything is fine until I try to print one with a lot of solid black in it, this turns out as very grainy grey and sometimes banded.
I am not saying it is the printer that is the problem as it could be my pressing technique or timing.
I am pressing for 190 degrees for 180 seconds which is the suggested settings for the mugs.
Anybody got any ideas

I think the Ricoh inks print a little quicker but your problem sounds more like the printer itself to me. Have you tried a nozzle check yet?

Suggested settings for Ricohs are less heat for shorter. You shouldn't be much more than 170 degrees for about 2.5/ 3 minutes.
Is your print banding before you go to press and what CMYK mix is your black (is it 100% CMYK for deep solid black?)

Ok no I haven't done a nozzle check yet but then I have had this problem from new.
I did not realise that I had to lower the press settings for ricoh inks, i was just going by the settings published for the mugs on the BMS site.
as for the CMYK settings it is not always true black as it happens in photo printing and also solid black text

We do suggest online that if the blacks aren't right then you should lower the temp a little.
