I've noticed the same thing and it really turns ebay into a joke, and it's why I don't use them much any more.

I was after several items before Christmas, but I looked mostly for "buy it now" items so I stood a chance of getting them. These "snipers" ruin the whole process.

Some items I wanted to bid on, so I watched them for several days and then bid during the last day. You sit there watching right up 'til the last minute, thinking you've won - because you know you have another £20 before you'd be outbid - but, in the last second, you've suddenly lost. Ten days and proper bidding completely wasted.

The only saving grace is that, several times, the second hand/used item I was after ended up being sniped for prices in excess of what they would have cost if bought new. Serves them right.

I was after a printer back in November and I ended up bidding on about seven of the things in succession before I finally got one that wasn't sniped in the last second. It's a ridiculous situation that makes ebay look like a joke.

As a result of the snipers, I don't tend to look at ebay for anything that I really want because I know there's a 99% chance that I'd be sniped in the last second. I wonder how many other people have turned away from ebay because of the same thing?

i dont use a snipe tool, i just have it open in a second window with my final bid in place, and then place it at the last moment
