Re: Refilling Ricoh 3300 cartridges

Ok so I recently took the leap and moved from a troublesome Epson to a Ricoh 3300 and I must say that other than a couple of teething problems I am very impressed.
However my question is because I have quite a bit of ink left for my epson and I found this on ebay http://stores.ebay.co.uk/SZCISS/_i.html ... 2671788013
Is it possible to use the above cartridges with my printer and refill them with the ink for my epson or is the ink for the epson formulated differently as it is Visi-Sub not Subli-Jet R

first thing i would say YES. you can refill them with your ink. but... As you noticed its formulated in diferent way. so I am not sure how ricoh would like this change.

in my personal point of view it wouldnt be a problem. but you could not use your powerdriver any more and need to get ICC profile for your setup.

As we always have to point out.....your printer won't be officially supported...ok, that's that said.....

Yes the cart's should work ok but as Paul has mentioned, I believe the ink formula for the Ricoh is different and in theory the Artainium etc. wouldn't work in the Ricoh. I would have thought this was due to the consistency as Ricoh use a Gel ink.

I thought this might be the case as I was under the impression that it was gel inks in the proper cartridges, but this being the case I don't see what good refillable cartridges would be.

you can get set of refilables for about £40. good price in my opinion. gel ink has no much different consistency then normal subli ink.

Problem is that a little change in consitency can have a significant impact of printability - take the consistencies of genuine inks and some compatible inks. A very slight change can result in no print at all! Best test is to open a Ricoh cartridge and look at the ink yourself - I've plenty of these kicking around the warehouse...:)
