Re: 64 bit O/S - Is it worth it?
I've always stuck with Windows XP 32bit, pretty happy with the stability right now but looking to upgrade my PC.
I want to considerably increase the RAM, much quicker processor etc. and to do this would need to go 64 bit to see the RAM recognised. I know there used to be software compatibility issues with 64 bit and wonder if these were ironed out.
Is there any benefit to using Win 7 64 but over XP 64 bit? Not keen on Win 7 and would sooner stick to XP if I can.

I'm curious. If your computer has the capacity to handle Windows 7's bloat, why would you stay with XP that'll run out of support in two years? I stick with XP because, despite Microsoft's promise to the contrary, Windows 7 is too bloated for a netbook.

Firstly for that very reason, less bloat! I prefer the interface of Xp to Win 7.....actually I prefer Linux but can't get what I need running on there so it has to be Windows.

A friend of mine out in Australia works for Microsoft & all his home computers use XP which says it all to me.

Very interesting. I've heard many folk stick with XP, that's certainly an endorsement!
Re: 64 bit O/S - Is it worth it?
I just remembered Justin that last week when I was searching for a new computer I called into a company that custom builds computers & we talked about what was the best O/S to use. He said they had to use Windows 7 if you wanted them to load it for you due to their agreement with Microsoft. Now this is the best bit as he said if they could every computer they built they would use XP as it is still the best O/S from Microsoft. It seems no matter who you talk to who is an expert on computers all still prefer XP. I also noticed in my search Windows 8 seems to be rearing its head.

My decision to stay XP may well be a good one then. I disabled Windows updates quite some time back and it may be a pure coincidence but I've had no problems whatsoever since then
Yes, I backup up regularly, clone the drive and so on....just before anyone tells me I should always update Windows security!
Re: 64 bit O/S - Is it worth it?
so iam the one. windows 7 is the best windows so far
I love my XP but only coz i use it for so long and get useto it as many other people. And lets be honest! what can we compare it to?? wn95? win98 to old to compare. win Me? no comments
Only win XP is up to standards that are used this days as internet and networking. we could compare it to vista but this simply no good system. thats why microsoft decided to replace it so quick and done such big changes. is worth to mention that Win7 is not new system based on old vista. Just retuched and polised. is completly new windows witch new code. Most people dont like it as is so diferent then Xp. Understable as people dont like changes... But lets be honest! there is nothing wrong with windows 7!

Another thing is you only have to look what major companies use & most of them are still using XP because it is so stable.
