Re: invoice/accounts software

I've been using Kashflow http://www.kashflow.co.uk/?code=AFF2101580 for about a year now, it's without doubt the best accounting software I've used. Support is free and brilliant and it's so easy to use. The software is continually updated. It's so well integrated into the internet and does my on-line VAT & Revenue submissions all of which are HMRC approved.

Online invoicing is a breeze and as the whole program is internet based, you can login from any computer no matter where you are - caters for multi-user too.

Give it a try and see what you think.

PS I think I get a fiver for each new trial :)

I use Kashflow, and have been for 3 years. Also have it on my iphone which allows me to have the clients contact details and how much they owe out and about.

I have only had bad experience with sage.
They may be an accountants standard but it is not easy for a non accountant to use and very difficult to get the setup right.
Avoid sage!

That's why I use quickbooks - it does take a while to get used to, but so does every software.

I guess they'll take annual payment too!

It all depends what sort of benefits you require. I'm not going to attempt to list them all here. Suffice to say, I've tried numerous accounting software packages but found Kashflow far and away the best. I did my VAT return yesterday with 'one click', it was automatically submitted to HMRC, acknowledged by them and within the hour approved by them too - I received a repayment in my bank immediately.

The software is upgraded on nearly a weekly basis with new facilities including marketting and Dropbox intergration to name just a few. Support is usually within the hour whereas Sage support is costly and often slow.

All in all, I'm delighted with it. I pays my money and takes my choice.

Don't get too carried away John - £1.65 wasn't that exciting  but anything back from HMRC is a triumph :)

If your business is big or complicated, I've no doubt that something like Kashflow would appeal. The numbers don't add up for me though (pun intended).

Basic: £15.99 + VAT = £19.19 pm = £230.26 p.a.
Paypal addon: £8.49 + VAT = £10.19 pm = £122.26 p.a.

= £352.52 p.a. and that's not counting all the other "chargeable addons" I might need.

For that kind of price I think I'll stick with my paper books / spreadsheet and paying a real accountant at the end of the year.

I'm also not sure I'd be happy with all my data being kept online. If your internet connection goes down, how do you access your data/invoices, etc?

I'd also be a little cautious of anyone who sums up their online security by saying "We are of no doubt whatsoever that your data is many times more secure stored in this way than it is when stored on your home computer or in a dust box under your desk!"

Personally, I think I'm going to look at the free software linked to by mrs maggot earlier in the thread.

a tip for you JSR, is to name a company something similar to yours and use that to play around on while you get use to the system, then you are not playing around with your accounts - i always try something "new" that way, so i can see if it works, like opening a new cash source, or putting the paypal charge amount in
