I have a Ricoh 3350n and have put some brand new carts in, the display shows approx half full so I used the service trick to get the actual values :

y:50%
m:51%
c:53%
b:63%

Bearing in mind these are brand new cartidges...is this the norm??

Might be a conflict as the 3350 isn't supported by sawgrass so the chips might not be working correctly. The sawgrass supported one's are the 3300, 5050 7000 and I think 7700

First lot of carts always do that as much of the ink is in the lines. Next set will show 100% and will last a lot longer but always best to budget for 2 sets when buying a Ricoh.

Yh I know they arent supported but theres lots of people with this set up being successful. What I find odd is from what I have seen there is very little difference between the models is the 3350n prints a tad quicker and has more memory, the rest from the spec sheets looks pretty identical.

Thats what I thought when comparing - be interesting to find how you get on with profiles etc. - please keep us up to date.

Can I ask why you chose the 3350?

Simply put, i found it on ebay, brand spanking new, in an unopened box (won as a prize) and I paid.....£45!

I checked first that it would work with a chap from another forum who said he had set up loads and has an ICC profile to suit. Hes in the US so timezone difference is making communication slower but im hoping the profile will arrive at some point today.

Then Im going to produce another mug that Ive done already without the profile and play spot the difference!!

As Justin said, it isn't a case of the ink is wasted, its because it takes quite a bit to prime the ink lines in a brand new printer, it's all still usable but its in the lines not the carts. Obviously by the looks of your remaining ink levels it takes about half the ink in the carts to fill the ink lines up. It really isn't anything to worry about :-)
