That's the thing Jimbo - yes this would be cheaper but you'll still need to cut the sheets which take time, where as the coasters are ready to go (good idea though).Jimbo;30713 wrote:For £10 you can buy 6 - 24" x 12" sheets of aluminium in different finishes which could produce 108 coasters and they would last a lot longer than the card ones. You would of course need a 12" shear and a corner rounder.

Subli metals and bms can cut metal for you. They did for me and done exelent job. All with rounded corners. Problem is it looks pants without backing. So would be nice to stick come cork or rubber as a base.
just need to have a chat wit local pub. Never to many coasters there....

metal coasters look good with the little rubber pads on them (packs available in pound shops). It raises them up a little and they look more appealing

I agree, although the aluminium works out cheaper, when you allow for extra time for cutting them up there's probabaly no difference in cost, however think of the difference in what you could sell the aluminium coasters compared to the cardboard ones.AdamB;30714 wrote:That's the thing Jimbo - yes this would be cheaper but you'll still need to cut the sheets which take time, where as the coasters are ready to go (good idea though).

I just received my samples from TMT! verry fast ti was i must say. they send 6 coasters to try out. They do in did look like verry posh cardboard coasters with verry shiny surface. I am just about to print couple to see how they print. I dont know any time or temp so will have a go with standard test temp for me: 185C for 50ces. will upload picture soon.

If you use aluminium do you need to put a sublimation coating on top of them? And is it a regular metal corner rounder punch you use - as I have a couple of those - one for heavy duty chipboard and one for cardstock ....Jimbo;30722 wrote:I agree, although the aluminium works out cheaper, when you allow for extra time for cutting them up there's probabaly no difference in cost, however think of the difference in what you could sell the aluminium coasters compared to the cardboard ones.

The aluminium is coated for sublimation. I buy it in 24" x 12" sheets for about £1.70 per sheet in up to 9 different finishes, 0.5mm thick or in case of white and grained sliver also in 0.75mm.
You'll need a metal shear and a corner rounder if you want to cut it yourself.
