Its a gel ink so the heads or nozzles are a different size so the ink doesn't block. I doubt it very much whether standard sub ink would go through this printer.
Re: Ricoh Refillable Cartridges any one??
It's worth considering that, if you do this, you'll lose any support you'd otherwise get.TPM;28412 wrote:So am I right in thinking that I can buy subli-jetR ink to refill these cartridges - and it will work out cheaper? Does anyone else do this for sub printing?
It's been mentioned before that (i) Ricoh won't touch you if you've used other inks, and (ii) Sawgrass may help if the printer fails but only if you've bought from an authorised reseller - they won't help if you fiddle with the printer in an unauthorised way. Maybe if you're outside your first 12 months anyway then it's worth the risk, but it is still a risk.
There are plenty of workable cheaper options out there. It seems that the Ricoh system is the one that's most likely to "just work" so long as you tie yourself to an authorised reseller for both the printer and the ink. Do anything else, and you may as well be using another, cheaper, printer.
Re: Ricoh Refillable Cartridges any one??
pigment ink will so subli will too. Dont forget that subli ink is thicker thats why so many troubles with epsons. So i would understand if nozzles are smaller... But they biger so should be easy for ink to go thru.John G;28414 wrote:Its a gel ink so the heads or nozzles are a different size so the ink doesn't block. I need to get hold of some ricoh now and do some test to confirm that.

No - you cannot buy sublijet gel ink separately from the cart - Paul is talking about using these refillable carts with standard inkjet sublimation ink. It would be interesting to find out if it works but I wouldn't want to chance it with my printer.
Interestingly the printer used in the ebay listing is a gx3000 which isn't even supported for sub use!

Re: Ricoh Refillable Cartridges any one??
If it works on a gx3000 (as in the ebay pic 1st posted) it'll work on any of the gx's so the following may be a good cheap alternative if you don't need the profiles or powerdrivers etc.

Spot on, JSR. If you're going down that sort of route, you'd be better offer going cheap and unsupported. If you've spent out on a Ricoh, then surely a good portion of that outlay is for the peace of mind of it's supported nature?JSR;28415 wrote:It's worth considering that, if you do this, you'll lose any support you'd otherwise get.

Re: Ricoh Refillable Cartridges any one??
John is right. I dont think yo can buy sublijet ink in bulk and refill the carts whenever you want. And I am not blime you JOhn tat you would not risk your printer lol
thats why Iam affter some ellcheapo ricoh to test it. I am not pushin no one to go "unsuported" I just wonder if my ink (I got half of the old ciss after my D88 packed up with filled with artanium.) if I could do this. thats all. I am very interested if I could join the normal sublimation ink with speed of that ricoh offer

Shows how novice I am - I thought all sub ink was the same just a different name on the box!!!
Re: Ricoh Refillable Cartridges any one??
Price seems extortionate to me. Free delivery (Canada only I guess) but if you pick up they'll charge $20.
I'm sure the ink would go through okay but not on the same profile probably...... but that's where Paul comes in
