I've been dye sublimating, on and off, for nearly 3 years now. More off than on I'm afraid, and just the one small job (a picture to put on a headstone) since my website was hacked and had to be taken offline. One of these days, though ... The trouble is that I lost all of my graphics and other D-S data when my computer went wotsits up and all the backups failed when I tried to reload them. Now I keep all the important stuff on an external hard drive for security purposes.

The presses I own include a 29 x 38 Cms flat, 2 sizes of mug, a cap and small plate/saucer. I'd love a hand held one so I can do car graphics work, but that will have to remain a pipe dream until my finances recover some time in the future. I'd also like to print white on clear window stickers, but ...
I've used several Epson A3 printers over the years - 1400, 1270, 1280, 1290, etc but they've been too much trouble so I've turned to an Epson R300 for sublimation printer with yet another CISS fitted to it and an external waste ink pot.

Purely due to the challenge I concentrate on large area canvas prints which I mount (but not frame) myself. The largest I've done is about 32" x 25" (29" x 21" stretched).
I had a bit of luck last year and managed to get some dye sub ink after a small company went bust in Eire. 500ml of each of the 6 colours set me back less than £100. Good price or what? That should be enough to keep me going for a while.

Did you ever think of a possible use for the waste ink? I may have. If you put some of it into an exhausted felt tip marker you can write or draw freehand on to the sublimation blank and then shove it into a press with a couple of sheets of ordinary photo paper over it (on each side for cloth) and it should work. Whether you would want to is another subect though.

Ps. My thanks to the webmaster for confirming my registration when the automatic email never arrived. Good ya, Cobber. Have a tinny on me

Hi there and welcome to the DSF. I know how it feels to lose years and years worth of work and backups failing, major failure a few years back left me panicking but I managed to recover 98%. Just recently I had a problem and lost a fair bit of stuff, didn't recover quite so well this time but I found better software in process and getting there now.....welcome again.

I backup to 2 external drives.

USB pen drives are a convenient way of backup up modest amounts of data and are very convenient to use.

Always remember to keep your backups away from the computer in case you are burgled.

Might be a good idea to start a thread on backups, something many don't consider until it's too late ;-)

That's a good idea. I recently started using Dropbox for backups of essential files (you get access to previous versions, too). It's dead easy to use - which is the main requirement for me!
