but how do i turn it back to colour if ive gone over the player with the blackness?

do you do that on layers or only on one pic???

Try in the history and drag and drop last edit into bin - as Paul said, you could create a duplicate layer and work on that.

I did it on he pic - next time I'll do it over a layer :-)
How can I put a bit of colour back on a bit I didnt mean to make black/white?

Start again but after doing the selection check it in quick mask (2 buttons under the black n white colour picker) you'll see any mistakes and can use the eraser or paint brush to correct your work then click out of quick mask to reveal a perfect selection.

PPL! you got photoshop - one of the most advanced raster graphic software! why? coz it can use layers! in so many diferent ways! so use it for whatever you do. every "processing" on diferent layer. so in future if somethig goes wrong then you can delete just this layer then do it again. so you dont loose 2h of work :)
