Michelle if you trawl through the threads that have copyright in them you can read the general gist of it, mind you you'll end up wondering what half of it means. I started my business of with little knowledge but time and speaking to right people got me there. if you know anybody in business it is wise to speak to them and then you can ask questions ect and will be able to word it better than the written word which might be construed in the wrong way. I am sure you'll do well, I did not have a business plan but was smart enough like most people that are learning something new, how things are required by law and all that goes with it. i made many mistake and even lost money with what I did, but the learning curve was far more valuable than the time and money that I lost, and i sure that's how most small business start and fail by trying, reading and asking all various agency's that are out there. most people start by doing mugs for friends and families and as you have the kit I would carry on and see how it goes and where it takes you.

thanks for your comments Matt.. like you say - looked easy in theory, I didnt think I would need any technical knowledge, but I have bought the equipment and am determined to persevere. With regard to the copying of logos - this would ovbiously be at the request of the "client".. Thanks for your input though.

- Just make sure the client has the proper rights to ask you to copy whatever it is you're copying and that your terms and conditions are properly drawn up to cover your back!

Michelle - I've been in business 25 years and see 'newbies' roll in and out with the tide. It troubles me to see people fail unnecessarily... And invariably such failure stems from a lack of planning.

For every one person who muddles through there are 100 who have crashed and burned.

Whether you seek and take advice is entirely your own affair. However; by the sounds of it you REALLY need to take several steps back from this and start planning properly. Why would you imagine you wouldn't need any technical knowledge? - No business is THAT easy! If it was everyone would be doing it! And, as I suggest, you also have certain legal obligations. Ignorance of the law is not a defence!

Your local council will have some sort of section that gives basic advice to start-ups. You need to talk to them. - Technical questions can probably be run through here; likewise some of the basic legalities...

Back to your original question......Personally I prefer Coreldraw, I find it the most user friendly and easiest to work with regards to colour profiles etc. Recently started using Illustrator a little more and also dabbling in Inkscape and Gimp....both of these are free and seem to be extremely good :-)

Take a look at Vector Magic as well. Fantastic piece of software if you need to work with companies logos and they can't provide a good image.
