Photoshop

I'd go Photoshop. The newest one you can afford. In my opinion Photoshop is the benchmark, everything else is a % of it.
I do understand that it's hard to find the tool that you need for a while. I still forget lots of shortcut keys and menu lists, but it does what it's meant to, if you can find the right way.
