Re: Glue Spray thingy - what's it called?

Post by AdamB »

Hi all,

I have seen a few videos from conde etc and they use a spray glue to hold an image in place so it can be sublimated.

Does anyone know what it's called and where I can get it from?

Also, I am wanting to use this for mousemats so I can keep the image straight to be sublimated - does anyone with experience know if it will work (or if it won't as the glue is only meant for solid surfaces?).

Many thanks

Adam

I think it may be something like spraymount (3m), spray glue thats re-positional.

Thanks John - I was looking at that stuff but what threw me was that I would be spraying the actual image and not the back of the image (if you know what I mean), so I wasn't sure if it was this or a specialist spray glue that won't mix with the image/ink ???

I'm not sure Adam, I use this when screen printing t'shirts - I spray the carousel platen lightly then put the shirt on the carousel. It keeps the shirt in place when printing and doesn't leave any residue when taking the shirt off the platen.

Its worth a go - you would spray at a good distance - approx 12" away and only lightly. Any closer and you'll soak the paper. I've never tried this so it would be an experiment.

Its available at art supplies stores but I buy mine from sericol, called T-fix (same as spraymount)

Thanks John - I'll try .......

FAO fredster, yeah I currently use heat tape but I was looking for something a little quicker to use as I have about 50 mousemats to do! Plus, I find that using heat tape has to be spot on as it stretches over the mousemat and unless you keep an eye out you'll find that the mousemat/image will move slightly causing the image/graphic to move slightly. Not an issue with photos and the like but when you have a graphic that uses straight lines you need it to be straight every time or it'll look 'pants'!

Adam, you need 3M 75, heat resistant spray mount which you can get from Subli Supplies. here's the link for it http://www.sublisupplies.com/accessorie ... d_323.html

You only need a small amout on the transfer paper & I mean a very small amount. One of the best ways I have been shown for getting the distance right for spraying is have something like a large box something like that all your mugs came in & put a load of scrunched up newspaper in it & then lay your transfer paper on top of the paper & spray it very very lightly.

It's good stuff but as I keep saying you meed just a small amount like a very very light misting.
