Re: Posting Mugs..

Morning all...

....Im just after a bit of advice please....I currently post mugs out in the poly boxes from BMS...is there another reliable way of posting mugs safely but so they look presented? How would the brown boxes (on BMS site for example) stand up? Im thinking I would like to offer a presentation box with the mug, but not sure on how it would get delivered safely..

smash proof ones from subli supplies are best. I used to use doube side sticky tape to close them so there was no ugly tape around the box. Very safe, clean and smart looking package.

One quick way to improve the "look" of your packing is to use transparent tape - not the ugly brown stuff - particularly when packing in white polystyrene boxes.

I use the poly ones for individual mugs, and the 6-way polys for multiples of six. Most times the customer just wants to see their photo on the mug, they don't really care how it's packed.

I have some of the smashproof ones here, but although they are strong they are also incredibly heavy - so you really have to watch your postage. Case in point - today I posted a black mug (the ones BMS sell with the white panel). It didn't fit in a poly box because of the huge handle, so I had to put it in a smashproof box. The weight went up to just a couple of grams below 500g. If I'd put an invoice in the box, the postage would have gone over 500g and cost 57p more.

Likewise, you can send about 6 regular mugs under 2Kgs in poly boxes, but only 4 in smashproof boxes. In poly boxes, 3 regular mugs will go under 1Kg (and, hence, 2nd Class) but only 2 in smashproof boxes. If postage costs are important to you, it's something that you need to keep an eye on when you go to the heavier boxes.

If a customer is buying bulk, I give them the option of individual boxes (because they're probably selling on) - in which case I use the cardboard ones sold by either BMS or Listawood - but I pack them inside a double-walled outer box for shipping. But bulk orders go by courier, so weight isn't the paramount concern.

Many thanks for the info! Do you sell individual mugs as gifts, therefore maybe wrapped or in a presentation box?

Pretty much all of mine are posted, and safety in the post is more important than presentation. If the customer wants presentation boxes, then I'll supply them, but that typically only happens for bulk orders.
