They used to have the web addresses along the side of each members name in the Members area which was good, not sure if it is still the same since the site has had a facelift though, i'll have to have a look.

Many of us use the web address as our signature so thats another way to look as you are browsing posts.

mr site, but be careful if you ever want to move anywhere else, as they will charge quite a lot for the name

yes always work checking hosts as well
a friend used a free host to register her domain and host her site all done through google thingy
she now wants me to host it (as i give a lot more help support and features for a small outlay) and contacted them to swap the nameservers and they said it will take 60 days :O

so be careful of these free places as they'll always try and get you somehow

she actually bought another domain name instead of waiting all that time

Come on John!

Dreamweaver isn't really the kind of thing that someone could 'pick up' and use 'straight out the box'. I have used (and use) this software a lot (amngst others) but the best software I could reccommend which gives fantastic results with little or no knowledge is this:

http://www.magix.com/gb/xara-web-designer/

I have used this for a couple of mates and the finish is fantastic! If you know what you're doing then you can delve deeper into the code side of things but if your a novice then open a template, change around however you wish and then click the button and it converts it into clean code and uploads to your server.

A great bit of kit!

Be wary of using companies that seem too cheap to be true.

They keep their prices down by overselling and cramming more and more people onto the same server. That's fine for a small hobby site, but not for your business.

Don't be persuaded by "free domain". Go with a reputable registrar that allows you to do what you like with it. A .co.uk shouldn't cost much more than a fiver a year anyway, so getting it free shouldn't be the deal-maker.

Also, don't be persuaded by "multiple Gigabytes for dirt-cheap" promises. Hard disk space is so cheap these days, that it doesn't cost the company much at all.

There are some companies out there that are as "cheap as chips" and advertise in all the magazines/newspapers you can find. If you're not paying much and they're spending a fortune on advertising, just what kind of service do you think you're going to get? Best to check out the recommended providers.

Pay a little extra for a good provider, keep your domain separate from your hosting, and you'll thank yourself in the long run.

Good points JSR, and don't forget that if you find a 'host' just google the name with the word 'review' to see what others think about them (best form of advertisment is positive feedback).
