Re: Advice on bulk orders

Post by David B »

Hi
I certainly would not sell at £2.50 per mug even for a good quantity. On one off mugs we charge £5.99-£9.99 plus postage. Still very new to sublimation and still experimenting but will have a full breakdown on costs soon. The problem is what products to sell. I think the deal is quality everytime. Then again 50 mugs with just a logo cuts down the costs. Will have a website up soon so you will be able to compare my pricing and products.
Kind regards David

I rarely get to sell a mug above £2.50 but like I said, I don't sell in singles.

Very interesting reading this thread. I guess no one is absolutely right or wrong. I agree any fool can be busy but sometimes a low priced order is beter than no order. If you have nothing on your books and twiddling your thumbs should you take it and make something. Some companies who employ staff will take cut price orders just to offset the costs rather than lay people off. For me I work out the unit cost of any item as close as I can, then how many I can do in an hour (realistically) then divide how many per hour to how much I think I'm worth an hour. (Does that make sense)

We missed a cracking order a couple of years ago with drink bottles. It was for a 1000 and we couldnt get stock in time (In the middle of June can you believe it) so the order evaporated. Had we have got it at the price we quoted we would have been busy fools as we hadnt factored in time. Approx 7 days of 12 hour stints or 3.5 days of 24 hour stints. The margin we had put in would have been pathetic

I sell in singles etc, I have a shop and sell individual mugs for 6.99, if you work from home your overheads are different from mine, my charges vary on a scale then after that, and as I said in my previous post I as swayed by other factors. I could not afford to do mugs from the low prices stated. people overheads are different so price must vary, and not everybody takes into consideration replacement factors, tax and expansion ect, and the rest of paraphernalia that goes with running a business, if it just a hobby then you your just happy to get a small return, but it would be unsustainable if they ran it as a paying concern.

Just thought I'd add to this. I sell mugs for £8 for one offs and I did a local company who had about 50 mugs at £5 each. I have had repeat business with no problems.

How many singles are you selling Scott - does most of it come from ebay etc?

Has anyone tried Amazon - I took a look, but it seemed expensive...
