Re: Colour popping in Apple Aperture 3

Post by Draner »

I was asked recently how to colour pop a image in Apples Aperture program so i thought i would share the method on here so everyone can see.

Thank you to http://www.flickr.com/photos/bernatcg
who I borrowed the image from.

1st job, load your image.

2, we need to use the brush tool to desaturate the parts of the image we want to be back and white. so click on the brush tool and select "saturation"

3 we should have now moved to the "adjustments tab" so we can move the saturation slider to 0

4 use the brush to remove the colour leaving the area you want in colour, ( dont worry if you cut into it, we can tidy it up later.

5. you can replace the colour in any part of the image by using the thing at the right end of the brush inspector.

And that should be it. Save and enjoy.

Colour popping is definitely not for every image, I think it works best when used to lessen a background as apposed to using it to force something to be noticed.

im my opinion this is a good example as it bring the couple forward.

where as this one makes you look more at the ball and less at the rest of the photo

Just my opinion

yeee. but regards to first photo I would make background more out of focus to bring the couple forward. but if this can notbe done then this is good way to "fix" the pic.

my way of using it is this:

I love the lighting in that photo, the red works really well.

I sometimes prefer the detail to be in the background but with the subject standing out from it.
