I've been thinking of doing this, but the restriction on the parcel having to be sent the day after buying the shipping just puts me off. Sometimes I'm putting together orders over a couple of days and then taking them all to the Post Office at the same time. If buying online means some of those payments will have expired, it just doesn't make sense.

Also, they're going to start charging for logo printing soon - an extra 6p each time, I think. Given that the postal charges are about to go up by a hefty amount because it's April, the Royal Mail are seemingly doing everything they can to price themselves out of the market (well, they would if they didn't have the monopoly).

I havent posted a mug yet - and I see soo many costs! Whats the typical cost to send 1 mug in a poly please?

I mug costs £2.24 1st class with RM, and that's postage alone, you still need to incorporate the cost of your mailer

Crikey! How are these people selling mugs for a fiver with free postage!!! About £2.50 to make the mug, the same to post.....they are working for free!

No overheads at all, working from their bedroom, using crap ink, cheap paper & mugs - its beer money for them. I've seen quite a few on ebay doing them for a lot less than a £5 - don't try and compete on price, its pointless. Come up with your own ideas and sell them at a decent price.

Thanks John! I'm a bit relieved! Hopefully I've got some good ideas, just need to put them online effectively now... but I guess I've still got to be conscious that some people might not understand the difference between paying £5 or £8 or £10.....guess there's going to be a bit of trial and error! For ebay sales, would you say a shop sets out the stall (so to speak!) in a more professional way, that individual listings? I want to be and give the impression of a professional experienced provider of quality products afterall...

I send mine by Recorded delivery, so that's £2.98 just for the postage for just one mug. In a week or two, the postal prices go up. For me, that'll be up from £2.98 to £3.25 and will most certainly kill off a lot of business. The Royal Mail's current trick seems to be to put 2nd Class post up to 1st class prices, which won't help those who post by 2nd class.

We're rapidly approaching the stage whereby the Royal Mail will have killed off any business that sells small, low-value, low-weight, items such as individual mugs.

You can claim upto £41 with a proof of postage for items sent 1st class

Whats the 1st class cost for a mug? Or even 2nd class if that also gives insurance..? Could there be another carrier who charge less?
