Re: The Electric Bill !

Post by AdamB »

Has anyone ever worked out how much it costs to run a heat press, mug machine etc?

I was just wondering as our first 'electric bill' has landed on the door step so I started to go through exactly whats pulling the juice.

We have a few (about 20) floresent strip lights that drain a little (I went round turning things off and looking at the meter), but I was just wondering if anyone had actually worked out how long it takes to run a press for an hour?

Yes, all arrived thanks Adam - haven't opened the boxes yet!

If I'd remembered you were just up the road in Aberdare, I could have collected and saved you some money!

Large presses are 2kw/hr. Mug presses are around 350/400 watts per hour. Combination presses using the flat bed press are about 1.4kw/hr. A kw/hr costs around 12p ish.

They don't draw their full wattage constantly?

If you are the type of person who likes to work through the night (most of us don't) then you could change your electricty trariff to economy7 which is far cheaper to run during the night, economy7 is good for people who have electric storage heaters so they can build up the heat during the night a lot cheaper, it's usually around 3p a kw/hr
Children are bit bit like flatulence....you can just about put up with your own

True, these are guides which give an indication of consumption.

You can also borrow/buy energy meters whcih monitor the whole house and you can then put individual items on/off to see what difference they make.

Or you can switch everything off and look at the little spinny thing going around then turn things on one at a time - when it rotates more than than airhawkes blades you know that there's a pound puller on somewhere!
