Is it just me, or does anyone else hate wasting vinyl?
Re: Is it just me, or does anyone else hate wasting vinyl?
If I have to cut a design in vinyl I always have a look at the amount of waste vinyl that I'm going to pull away and see if there's anything else I can fit in the space.
I hate wasting the stuff but you see all the 'pimpashirt' videos and they pull away shed loads of the stuff and bin it ................ is it just me or does everyone else do the same?

i try and cut as much as possible to, often fitting smaller designs inside what would otherwise have been waste

Try sign vinyl - then you'll know what wastage is. :frown: no one will recycle it!
I too try and get more out of each piece of t shirt vinyl and save offcuts but I was never any good at jigsaws.

i also keep scrap flex/vinyl to try out a new design colour not important, when i size up images i make sure i can get the max from a roll, but i still get through white rolls so quickly.

I keep the decent size leftovers and use them on a carrier sheet for the hat designs.
When I did sublimation some time ago, my vinyl tees outsold my subli tees by about two to one. Nowadays my subli tees outsell my vinyl tees by two to one, so my vinyl wastage is far less now.

We cut what we can and save any bits over 100mm x 60mm (Cap press size so okay for baseball caps) and used to keep a box of the offcuts. The box got fuller and I never bothered to really look in it. So I had a brainwave in the Christmas run up. I screwed 10 cup hooks into the bottom of my shelves. Now when I have an offcut I punch a hole in it and hang it on the cuphooks in then seperate colours. Now when I need a small bit I just pull it off the relevant hook. Takes seconds and saves a lot of vinyl. What a saddo eh?
