We've been printing mirror gold metal for trophies and plaques for 15 years and never had this before!
On removal of the plastic protection the metal sheet looks clear, we cut down into appropriate sizes, lay up and tape onto the same paper we've always used and press at 175c for 45 seconds.
Of late we are getting smudges, not on the print itself, but a mark on virtually every piece which we thought may be down to greasy fingers, residue from the plastic sheet or too high a 'true' temperature (we have 2 presses). Checked with heat gun and both are running correctly.
The metal sheet we are using is from our usual supplier and a batch that up until now was absolutely fine.
Any ideas?

Re: Trophy plate metal printing issue...
If nothing has changed it can only really be either substrate or printer.
Order another batch of metal and see if the same thing happens, if it does then perhaps get some prints from someone else and see if it’s micro dots causing the issue

Thanks, we've come to the same conclusion it's the metal having tested some random sheets out of the older stock we hold. Doing the same from the latest batch gave us 50/50 results.socialgiraffe;154475 wrote:If nothing has changed it can only really be either substrate or printer.

The problem we have now is it's impossible to tell which is duff before we print.
