Re: Ricoh SG3100SNw as a sublimation printer

Post by neoqueto »

Hello, this is my first post in the community happy to be here.

So I've got given a Ricoh SG3100SNw for free, basically a trash find, but aside a missing front right flap and a faulty scanner lid hinge it looks spotless. If anything, I'd continue using it for office use. But I want to use it for sublimation, as a backup for our Sawgrass SG500. With Sublisplash inks or Sawgrass, if they are compatible.

However I was informed that I am wasting my time trying to rig it up for sublimation inks, as first of all, the SG3100, unlike its sibling SG3110, has heads that are not suitable for sublimation. And secondly, if a printer was used with regular office inks previously, the heads would clog up if sublimation inks were to be used with it. Is that true? Or should I just forget about it and keep it for spare parts?

Also, I may have lied, magenta on head #2 seems to not be printing at all even after multiple flush and clean cycles, that's with a brand new standard cartridge. Ink feed seems to be working because it's consuming ink. Brand new spent ink cartridge too. If there's resources on the forum or elsewhere pointing to maintenance and perhaps disassembly and head cleaning I would super appreciate it.

TIA and all the best.
