Re: Question about aligning print with correx

Post by Mrteajunkie »

Might be a stupid question to some but is there a trick?

I don’t normally apply printed vinyl to correx but I have been asked to supply about 20 a2 sheets with a full page print.

so my question is how do I align the print with the correx when applying it?
In the past I have sprayed the vinyl and correx and moved it about until I was happy then squeegeed out the water mix.

this isn’t a good way of doing it and I though there must be a way that’s far easier.
for info I print and cut the image to a2 size and trim any excess correx or vinyl and use my laminator on a light pressure setting.

many thanks.

I was just about to type a long winded reply but hopefully this youtube link works - if not search for hinge method

Edited to add - if you can squeegee in the direction of the correx flure all the better but still straight forward if not

Already doing this with vinyl but having issues getting the actual print to align straight.
Having the same issue with Foamex.

If alignment is critical then I would think the only way to do it would be by getting a larger corex sheet, laying down the vinyl and then trim.

It does take a bit of practice but can be done accurately

Once you've aligned the vinyl on top of the substrate accurately use enough tape to secure it to the bench on one half then use light strokes when first applying, increasing pressure once down

We used to apply 8ft x 4ft sheets using this method with about 5mm bleed on the vinyl print

A straight edge can help - once you've peeled back and trimmed off the backing paper 'stick' the straight edge/ruler to the very edge of the exposed adhesive - this just helps control the vinyl better rather than it being all floppy

Just get one of these. Worth their weight in gold for a small shop. Cheap enough and good quality for the price.
