Re: Hot flex not being picked up my the sensor

Post by martin247 »

Hi all, new in here and looking for a bit of guidance if possible.

I have been cutting vinyl for some time, but was asked if we could cut some T shirt designs, so i picked up a few sheets of Hot flex from MDP to give it a trial.

So, I understand I need to mirror the design and cut on the reverse matt side, so shiny transfer sheet facing down and cutting on the matt side. So far all ok.

Im using a Summa D60, when i place the media in the cutter (320x500 sheets) the cutters sensor does not pick up the media, it keeps saying insert media. Im guessing it cos the sheet is shiny and the sensor cant see it!!

Can anyone help, or point me in the right direction?

Any assistance is appreciated

Are you sure it’s not the sheet isn’t covering the sensor?

there will be a sensor which detects it and the sheet isn’t over the sensor.
move it along and try again.

edit: found this online.

You have to deactivate media sensor. In previous versions of the firmware it was possible to calibrate media sensor now, on SummaCutter, this operation is only possible in service mode. Alternatively you can cover the media sensor with adhesive paper.

Be careful, deactivating or covering the sensor the cutter will not stop during the loading procedure or while it is cutting if it reaches the end of the media

Cheers for assistance

The media is definitely covering the sensor yes.

I did try to cover the sensor with some masking and then it sort of worked, but the auto detect for the end of media didnt work and just spat out the media through the front so still unable to use.

I'll look at the sensor in the sw and see, but not had any experience with service mode!

Further and just to make things interesting, I purchased 2 colours: black and white. The above all relates to the black, so I tried the white and you know what, it worked fine. So while i have it working the black will not!!!

Cheers the mystery continues.
