Re: Dodgy supplier@

Post by Jimbo »

I have a business charge card for which I use only for purchasing from several suppliers online. Today I receved the monthly statement and there are 3 transactions that I didn't make.
All three were made online using my card details.
So there is someone at a supplier using my card details to buy and pay for things.
I've had to contact the bank and cancel the card, but when I get the new one it could happen again.

Anyone else had this problem?

How do you know it's a supplier? Surely this is fradulent but just means someone has your details? If they're buying online they wil be giving a delivery address?

As I said, I only use this card with a limited number of suppliers online, who else would have the card details? They would need the 3 digit code to pay online.

I've tried contacting the 3 places but either there was not a relevant email address or phone answered by a robot.
One was a large store with shops and online sales the other 2 were 2 different London Borough Councils.

I have had similar.
I had a PayPal business card and only used it for three or four companies then one day I had an alert on my phone £3 spent then £50 spent then £500 spent then £1500 spent all within a few minutes.

I called PayPal fraud dept straight away to stop payments but they allowed the payments to go through anyway.
it took me almost three months to get my money back and a lot of fighting even though I called them within 10 mins of the initial spend.

Sometimes it’s a joke.
my suspicion was with Hermes.

I doubt it would have been mdp , xpres or grafityp unless someone managed to just blag the details randomly.

These days making purchases online I always have a vpn enabled and PayPal was abandoned as they clearly don’t give two s***s

MrTJ - I had exactly the same issue with the PayPal Business Debit card as you did.

It happened twice to me and like you PP did not stop the payments when they clearly could have done very quickly, yes I got the money back but dealing with PP is always a nightmare. I only ever used the card in the local Post Office and with a couple of trusted suppliers I have known for years, yet one charge originated from a furniture store in Paris, so how my details were cloned I will never know, but of course they had the card number etc but not the pin which convinced PP it was not me.

Like you I never activated the replacement card and it just sits in the drawer with no issues since then, they obviously have an issue with these cards but of course would never admit it.
