Re: Out of date ink
I have made a boo boo.
today I topped up my epson ecotank and then realised I have been using inks dated august 2020.
To be fair I have been using these for months and not yet had an issue but am I tempting fate?
it’s sublinova inks which were sat on a shelf and I assumed they were new but the new inks are elsewhere.
And to top it off the other inks are dated June 2022.
Nozzle checks perfect and no issues but for how long?
Is there an issue using out of date inks?

Re: Out of date ink
I suggest you talk to Alex at Ink Experts. I once had a similar question and he did tell me the amount of leeway the inks have. Trouble is, I've forgotten what he said but believe it's quite a bit. The only problem I foresee is further down the road if it's a year on with the same inks.

Re: Out of date ink
Only issue I would expect to see would be a colour shift. I've only ever seen this once, my Sawgrass inks went out of date and it almost felt like the colours shifted overnight!
Never seen any issues with Sublinova but tbh I'evr never used anything as out of date as that. Personally if it was critical and the inks not being expensive I've remove as much as I could and top up with fresh inks to help minimise any issues.

Re: Out of date ink
If that’s all it is then I’ll just drain it and swap it for new.
I was worried it might block the print head.

Re: Out of date ink
How quickly can you burn through it? Unless you can use it in a few months you will just end up throwing the newer June 22 ink away.

Not overly fast tbh.pw66;151873 wrote:How quickly can you burn through it? Unless you can use it in a few months you will just end up throwing the newer June 22 ink away.
I only make about 300 mugs a month now as my main work has taken over for a bit.
im going to drain the out of date today and replace it with the newer inks, I just need to google how lol.
Re: Out of date ink
Just syphon it out of the tanks and refill. You'll have a little left in the plumbing but that won't matter in the circumstances.

Re: Out of date ink
I used to fill one of my L805 printers with slightly out of date Sublinova ink until the ink colours shifted quite badly one day. I had loads of ink leftover due to covid and wanted to try and use it up. I chucked it all out...ouch.
I'm rescuing this printer right now with fresh ink. Just trying to get a nozzle check.

Re: Out of date ink
I followed a guide on yt and drained out all the inks.
used a 20ml syringe which took a dogs age but got the job done.
new inks in and honestly can’t see any difference at all but maybe there’s still ink left in the system. Only time will tell
thanks to all for your help.

Re: Out of date ink
I got a load of sublinova 400ml carts dirt cheap on ebay once, broke them open, and poured the ink into used/empty sublinova 1 litre bottles. They were at least a year, maybe 2 out if date. Used them all in a 9600 and had no issues.
