About to receive a Genie 111 mug press for Christmas and looking forward to starting a new craft hobby. I have been decoupaging for a couple of years and have decided mug/glass pressing looks fun! I'm sure I'll have some issues to resolve along the way which I hope experienced forum members will be able to help me with

I must admit to being more than a little confused as to what is necessary. Can I use any inkjet printer as long as it takes Sublimation inks? Do I need Sublimation paper as well as Sublimation inks? If I don't use pre-prepared sublimated mugs i.e. 'normal' mugs, do I also need to coat them with sublimation coating - whatever that is - as well as using sublimation paper? Phew, my mind is now 'sublimated'

Lol it’s ok we were all new once.

The best printers for sublimation are epsons and yes they need sublimation ink. Cannon for example do not work as the print heads heat the ink as it’s laid down. Sub ink + heat = blocked print heads.

sublimation paper is what’s you need to get the best images from your prints but copier paper will work with varied results.

Mugs need to be coated self preparing mugs isn’t something I would do the results are not great (pretty awful) and inconsistent at best.
There are many suppliers out there for mugs like mdpsupplies, xpres and many others I tend to use the 10oz orca coated from mdp which have a decent coating and are lasting.

Did you mean if I wanted to purchase a sublimation printer, or indeed did you mean if I bought an Epson Printer and wanted to configure it so that it could be used as a sublimation printer?

if you already own an epson you want to convert they supply inks, papers and icc profiles to match.
or if you just want to start fresh with a new printer they supply kits ready to print.
