Hi all, recently ran out of dye sub heat proof tape so ordered more on amazon.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B09 ... UTF8&psc=1
Description refers to 'hold sublimation paper'. Tape arrived today and tested on an old mug leaves a nasty yellow stain behind that can't be removed
Anyone else had/having this problem? Am I missing something in the description or can this tape only be bought through the big sub suppliers at around three times the price inc. delivery?
thx for any advice/help

Re: Heat proof tape problems
I have had this exact problem from eBay years ago.PhilTh;150197 wrote:Hi all, recently ran out of dye sub heat proof tape so ordered more on amazon.

the tape is not true heatproof (kapton) tape and is melting under the heat.
The yellowing will come away with some ipa 99.9%.
but I strongly advise you stop using this tape as the gasses produced alone are most likely poisonous.
Try inkexperts for stock.
Re: Heat proof tape problems
Yes, had that problem with some bought on ebay.
Luckily it's cheap so bought another make which was fine.
Found the dodgy stuff was ok for odd coasters as it is only mugs where you are taping the print side that showed the marks.

Re: Heat proof tape problems
Lots of fake kapton tape floating around on ebay at the moment. We ruined a batch of 16 mugs when we got caught out with it last year.

Thanks, glad it wasn't just me being crap. Using masking tape now and that seems to work and a hell of a lot cheaper!

Without sounding disrespectful, are your margins so tight that you need to save about 1-2p per job?Using masking tape now and that seems to work and a hell of a lot cheaper!
