Fading on edge of mugs
Re: Fading on edge of mugs
Hi,
Just wondered if I can get some advice. I have started to get fading down the left hand edge of the mug in the middle, I have changed nothing. I thought maybe the blanket was on it's way out so I changed that but the results are still the same. Is it likely to be the press? Or is it possible just a dodgy blanket?
Thanks
Carly

If you've changed the blanket and the issue is stil happening it's unlikely the press. Are you able to check the temp around the blanket? Can you show a pic of the faded mug?
What pressure are you using and what type of press?

Re: Fading on edge of mugs
Hi Justin, thanks for your reply. So i've printed a black mug to see if I can show you and the weird thing is that it's 5mm closer to the handle and hardly any fade?! I'm doing loads with the names on and you can't really see from the photo but the K is starting to fade, it's happening to all of them and they are usually fine. I'm really confused! I'm using a light-medium pressure, any tighter and these blue mugs tend to crack for some reason. I've tried a different box of mugs too. I'm just wondering if they are all from the same batch as they one with the black is an old one. The press is the one from Novachrome, been using it over 2 years. Thanks

Re: Fading on edge of mugs
When you say you are getting fading, just to clarify, is this near the handle or away from the handle? Or, I can see fading on the lower edge of this mug, is that what you mean?
That is caused by the mug not beihjg straight, put 2 mugs together and you'll see the slight curve at the bottom.

Yes i'm not worried about the bottom as my designs don't tend to go down that far. It's the middle that's a new concern as I've never had that before

Re: Fading on edge of mugs
I can't see where it is fading in the middle on the photos? Pressure needs to be firm but not overly. Mugs certainly shouldn't be cracking.
Re: Fading on edge of mugs
The photos aren't picking it up, but it's not as crisp as it has been and i've done hundreds of these. I think it's a dodgy batch of mugs to be honest as it doesn't happen with orange or red ones, unfortunately I ordered 8 boxes of cobalt... hope it's not all of them!!

Re: Fading on edge of mugs
Where are the mugs from? Have to say I don't use that type personally. Have you tried a normal white mug? Could be a bad batch but the issue would have to be in same place in the coating for that to happen.
