Re: Coaster Printing Issue

Post by Ginger »

Hi

Newbie here

I'm trying to print a design on Unisub coaster, the design is in the center so lots of white space around.

I'm getting marks in the white space

I print 6 coasters to a sheet of A4 and don't cut paper, tape the coasters to the paper. Then press between two sheets of parchment paper. I press at 200 degrees C for 120 seconds - saw online that it was 45 seconds for 1 and then add 15 secs per additional coaster. I've done other coasters with all over print and they come out really well.

Any assistance would be much appreciated

Thanks

60 seconds for all 6 should be fine, no need to extend that time. If the marks aren't there before printing it's either on the paper (overspray etc.) or marks on the upper platen.

Can you post a picture?

Not a great pic but top right hand corner, looks like navy smudge. I change both sheets of parchment paper every time as tend to get lots of colour on them.

Using inkexpert inks and style paper

Thanks Justin, 60 seconds would be half the time I'm currently pressing for

Can you see this on the paper before pressing? Could be very faint.

Think I've thrown paper away now, I'll do another lot over the weekend and see if I can replicate

If it is there what would I do?

Is it just one coaster affected or all 6?
if all 6 is it the same place and same smudge. If it is this could be on the image prior to printing.

Hi, looks similar to an issue I was having. If it's continuously doing it the cheapest potential fix is to try changing Sub Paper. I use Truepix by Sawgrass and swear by it.

Previously I was using TexPrint and what was happening was that, as the ink was laid down the pin wheels which move the paper through the printer would pick it up and drop ink back on the paper as the pin wheel passed around again. This left me with marks in areas where there shouldn't have been any print. The smudge looks like it has a hint of blue which is in your print.

Basically the paper wasn't absorbent enough for the ink I was using. Once I changed paper it stopped instantly.

Good luck!

Do you not have to chance the ICC profiles if you change to a different paper or am i wrong?

Ideally you would get a specific profile for the paper/printer/ink setup. Often changing papers doesn't make a huge difference but there can be a noticable change.

oh ok, currently i use Cityinkexpress inks and their cream paper which so far has been ok, though i am not sure if its the best as ive not tried anything else. Not sure if this paper i use or ink is why i am getting the issues i posted about sublimation onto glass chopping boards etc.

i mostly do coasters, mouse mats and magnets and shopping bags, so i am unsure what the issue is with the glass items :/
